Located in the bustling heart of Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, You Xiang Restaurant 友香美食阁 stands out as a cherished culinary gem for lovers of Malaysian hawker fare. This unassuming eatery offers an authentic local dining experience with a broad menu that truly caters to all palates. Whether you're craving the rich, coconut-milk-laden curry mee that locals rave about or the nostalgic comfort of childhood kuay chap, You Xiang delivers each dish with heart and tradition.
The star attraction here is undoubtedly the curry mee. Rich, creamy, and bursting with fragrant spices, it’s no surprise that customers like khanscavanger call it the best in Johor Bahru, with a temptation so strong it lures visitors time and again. The curry's intense flavor and the satisfying depth of the soup beckon you to savor every spoonful. Just a heads up — this popular dish tends to sell out fast, so an early visit is highly recommended.
For those seeking variety, You Xiang does not disappoint. The pork noodle soup offers a comforting, hearty option, while the kuay chap delights with its chewy rice sheets and well-rounded spicy chili accompaniment, a nostalgic nod appreciated by many including Emily Lim. The mention of the taopok (fried bean curd puff) alongside the soup highlights the well-balanced flavors, though some days the freshness of ingredients subtly influences the taste.
The ambiance complements the food perfectly. Set within a spacious and clean coffee shop, it’s an inviting place to enjoy your breakfast or lunch. Despite being located amid a busy cluster of shops and eateries, You Xiang maintains a welcoming atmosphere that keeps regulars coming back. Evening diners can also enjoy flavorful Tzechar-style dishes, ideal for takeaway—a detail that adds to the restaurant’s versatility.
While the overall reviews give a mixed but honest perspective — “so-so” ambiance according to Tiger Jun but generous food variety and reasonable prices — the consensus leans toward genuine satisfaction, especially from those who cherish authentic local flavors. The service by the friendly sellers, particularly the experienced lady behind the curry mee stall, adds a warm, personal touch.
In summary, You Xiang Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking to indulge in traditional Malaysian hawker comforts in Masai. Its flavorful dishes, from the creamy curry mee and savory pork noodles to the beloved kuay chap, offer a heartfelt taste of Johor’s vibrant food scene. Whether you come early to secure your bowl of curry mee or return for a relaxed evening Tzechar, You Xiang leaves a lasting impression of warmth, flavor, and local goodness.

My favourite childhood kuay chap. Came on a public holiday at 10am and the food is almost running out. Possibility because the food almost running out so the soup and taopok taste bland. Kuay Chap taste good with chilli nevertheless. Coffee shop is spacious and clean.
